Adaptive Yoga
with Michael Bridge-Dickson.
Adaptive Yoga is an alignment-based yoga, unifying body, mind, and spirit. It is a modern evolution of the traditional practice, which was always intended to suit the needs of the individual. The system works first with the physical body and its alignment, building an even balance between strength, stability, flexibility, and symmetry between the front and back of the body, left and right, upper and lower halves, linking as much of the body within consciousness as possible.

Traditional and esoteric aspects of yoga are introduced throughout the ongoing development of the physical practice to honor the yogic tradition. Though much of this process is achieved through yogic postures, many other traditional yogic tools are used whenever they may be to the student's maximum benefit. In Adaptive Yoga, the classical poses are adapted for individuals of all needs and abilities using modifications and sequencing of poses for maximal physical, physiological, organic, mental, and energetic effects.

About Budokon
The word Bu-do-kon translates directly in Japanese as (Bu) Warrior (Do) Way (Kon) Spirit, or Way of the Spiritual Warrior.

The Budokon physical practice draws upon ancient and modern yogic and martial arts styles. The foundation of the Budokon physical practice is precision, alignment and Zen mind. All Budokon techniques are designed to explore the body's full range of motion. The practice dances between agility, control, speed, power, balance, flow, focus, calm, precision, flow and mastery in the body, mind and spirit. The Budokon Zen practice is seated meditation. Zen is about single minded living. Zen is about freedom from our own ideas. This practice is the foundation of Budokon and weaves its way through everything we do.

Budokon is a living art. By that I mean it is the art of living. It is your waking and your sleeping, your walking and your sitting, your living and your dying. I cannot say that it is more special than any other art. In fact, it is not special at all. It is the practitioner who brings all that the art is, all that the art will ever be. Budokon is not about gaining ideas. There is nothing to gain from it. It is simply a way. Our way is the Zen way. We are not a religion or a devotional practice. We do not practice to become enlightened. We practice because we are enlightened. If you are seeking something in order to gain something, this is the wrong practice. Budokon is empty of gaining ideas. If you believe there is something to gain from it, you will always be disappointed by it. This is the first lesson in our art. We must come to it, like all things, with a pure mind, free from attachment and gaining ideas. This is why we suffer. Budokon is freedom from suffering, nothing more.

Art of Living

The Art of Living Course

The Art of Living Course gives participants practical knowledge and ancient techniques that unlock their deepest potential and bring fullness to life. Whether happy and successful or feeling the stress of poor health, disappointments, or anxiety, every participant is cared for and comes away lighter, with effective tools for releasing mental and physical blockages and increasing his or her health, energy, peace of mind, self-knowledge, awareness, and joy.

The Sudarshan Kriya, taught on the course, is a technique that incorporates specific rhythms of breath to release stress, support the various organs and systems within the body, transform overpowering emotions and restore peace of mind.

According to the age old science of Yoga, impurities which accumulate in the cells cause sluggishness and promote disease. Sudarshan Kriya oxygenates the cells and rapidly flushes out impurities. Physically, the cells are vitalized; emotionally, one feels balance and contentment.

The course also includes meditation, gentle Yoga, and skills for dealing effectively with life’s challenging emotions and situations.

Several independent studies on the numerous mental and physical health benefits of the course have been published in international peer-reviewed journals and confirm what participants commonly report:

    • Reduced stress, anxiety and tension
    • More joy, enthusiasm and peace of mind
    • Less fatigue and improved efficiency
    • Heightened self-esteem and confidence
    • Enhanced physical health and immune system
    • Better communication and interpersonal skills
    • Increased focus, clarity, and concentration
    • Sharper observation and clearer perception
    • Anti-aging effect.

Association Yoga/Meditation Sant Mat
Sant Mat is an inner Yoga/Meditation free of charge. It focuses on the soul which must rise above the body into the Realm of Spirit to awaken into the highest consciousness, Self-Realization. The soul must learn to reconnect with the Divine manifestations of inner Light and Sound, the link between soul and Over-Soul, in some traditions called the Word, the Holy Sound Current or Holy Spirit. A competent living Master-Saint can establish this inner connection in the aspirant, granting a first-hand contact with the inner Light and Sound. This is a free gift. Once this connection with the Sound Current is established one can practice daily toward Self-Realization, inner peace, love, less stress and better health. Free weekly yoga/meditation groups are offered.

YOGA SANGHA: GLOBAL CONSCIOUSNESS

When the body becomes aligned, everything becomes aligned, because human beings are connected to everything that surrounds them, including themselves. - Sylvie Tremblay

centre yoga sangha

Centre Yoga Sangha

Welcome to Yoga Sangha!

Offering a warm and special atmosphere in a beautiful heritage building, Yoga Sangha places great value on quality teaching that is in keeping with ancient traditions, as well as offering massotherapist services to members. Discover this veritable Garden of Eden in the heart of Plateau Mont-Royal, near downtown Montreal.

Yoga Sangha provides an environment where profound values, fun, enthusiasm and creativity can all be explored and where serenity and joy are celebrated as the essence of what you are.

Recognized by the International Yoga Federation and the Fédération francophone de yoga, the Centre offers a wide range of approaches allowing you to find the rhythm, level, and style that suits you. The different yoga styles - Hatha, Flow, Dharma Vinyasa, Kripalu, Prénatal, Posnatal, Kids, Parents and Trance - and their workshops and retreats around the world - allow participants to unfold their potential.

Sylvie Tremblay founded the centre, formerly known as Yoga Corps a Coeur, and has been managing the school with passion since 2000. Offering the teachings of Sri Dharma Mittra (New York) in Montreal, Sylvie opened the yoga centre to foster a climate where people can, through osmosis, find and share harmony and spiritual values.

Christine Harkness, Kripalu Style yoga, Montreal

Christine Harkness

New to yoga? Here is a nice way to start: Affordable small-group or private sessions at your home, at your place of work, or at a private Plateau loft/studio.

I teach hatha yoga (Kripalu-style) to real beginners (people with very little or no yoga experience). I suggest an 8-week program to gently and safely prepare you for drop-in studio classes or a beginner-level home practice.

I am a Montreal-based Yoga teacher registered with the Yoga Alliance.
I was introduced to yoga by my mother who had discovered this ancient practice while living in Madhya Pradesh, India. I have been leading yoga classes since 2002, and I completed my 200-hr teacher training certification in 2003. Currently, I am seeking my professional-level (500hr) certification at Kripalu Centre for Yoga and Health in the Berkshires, Massachussetts.

There is no reason to rush: Start with the fundamentals, and build from a solid foundation. I hope to guide you towards your own unique, evolving, life-long yoga practice.

Eliza Moore.
Rooftop Yoga at Spa Orange.
Instructor Eliza Moore was trained in Montreal by both Mark Darby and Hart Lazer in the Ashtanga and Iyengar methods of Yoga. Her teaching pulls from both traditions, pairing a flowing sequence with a focus on physical alignment. Also a musician, Eliza finds joy and inspiration in rhythm and melody. She uses a diverse soundtrack to awaken a dance-like quality in her classes. This musical tapestry gives the students a frame work from which to link the flow of breath and movement as well as a playful approach to discovering the Asanas. Eliza's teaching is also informed by her training in Eastern medicine as a Shiatsu practitioner. She incorporates her knowledge of the subtle energetic layers or meridian system of the body, introducing her students to a more whole sense of self-awareness, beyond the material realm. All Yoga Classes include use of Spa Facilities.
