Adaptive Yoga
with Michael Bridge-Dickson

Adaptive Yoga is an alignment-based yoga, unifying body, mind, and spirit.

It is a modern evolution of the traditional practice, which was always intended to suit the needs of the individual. The system works first with the physical body and its alignment, building an even balance between strength, stability, flexibility, and symmetry between the front and back of the body, left and right, upper and lower halves, linking as much of the body within consciousness as possible.

Traditional and esoteric aspects of yoga are introduced throughout the ongoing development of the physical practice to honor the yogic tradition. Though much of this process is achieved through yogic postures, many other traditional yogic tools are used whenever they may be to the student's maximum benefit. In Adaptive Yoga, the classical poses are adapted for individuals of all needs and abilities using modifications and sequencing of poses for maximal physical, physiological, organic, mental, and energetic effects.

About Budokon
The word Bu-do-kon translates directly in Japanese as (Bu) Warrior (Do) Way (Kon) Spirit, or Way of the Spiritual Warrior.

The Budokon physical practice draws upon ancient and modern yogic and martial arts styles. The foundation of the Budokon physical practice is precision, alignment and Zen mind. All Budokon techniques are designed to explore the body's full range of motion. The practice dances between agility, control, speed, power, balance, flow, focus, calm, precision, flow and mastery in the body, mind and spirit. The Budokon Zen practice is seated meditation. Zen is about single minded living. Zen is about freedom from our own ideas. This practice is the foundation of Budokon and weaves its way through everything we do.

Budokon is a living art. By that I mean it is the art of living. It is your waking and your sleeping, your walking and your sitting, your living and your dying. I cannot say that it is more special than any other art. In fact, it is not special at all. It is the practitioner who brings all that the art is, all that the art will ever be. Budokon is not about gaining ideas. There is nothing to gain from it. It is simply a way. Our way is the Zen way. We are not a religion or a devotional practice. We do not practice to become enlightened. We practice because we are enlightened. If you are seeking something in order to gain something, this is the wrong practice. Budokon is empty of gaining ideas. If you believe there is something to gain from it, you will always be disappointed by it. This is the first lesson in our art. We must come to it, like all things, with a pure mind, free from attachment and gaining ideas. This is why we suffer. Budokon is freedom from suffering, nothing more.

Association Yoga/Meditation Sant Mat
Sant Mat is an inner Yoga/Meditation free of charge. It focuses on the soul which must rise above the body into the Realm of Spirit to awaken into the highest consciousness, Self-Realization. The soul must learn to reconnect with the Divine manifestations of inner Light and Sound, the link between soul and Over-Soul, in some traditions called the Word, the Holy Sound Current or Holy Spirit. A competent living Master-Saint can establish this inner connection in the aspirant, granting a first-hand contact with the inner Light and Sound. This is a free gift. Once this connection with the Sound Current is established one can practice daily toward Self-Realization, inner peace, love, less stress and better health. Free weekly yoga/meditation groups are offered.

This yoga is a practice of spiritual science or mysticism, universal in nature. It can be practiced by people of all ages, traditions, and religions.

In practicing Nia you fall in love with being and moving in your body....

O u r   a p p r o a c h: The JOY of MOVEMENT

Explore your body's natural rhythms with the Nia Technique, an expressive movement practice for body, mind and spirit. This unique fusion of dance blends concepts from the East and West to deliver a richly diverse energy experience; it is infused with the spirit of:

HEALING arts [YOGA, Moshe Feldenkrais, Alexander Technique]
DANCE arts [Modern, Jazz, Duncan]
MARTIAL arts [T'ai-Chi, Tae-Kwon-Do, Aikido]

This combination creates a synergy that no isolated technique can match.

Nia is done barefoot to inspirational music and is a rewarding compliment to asana practice. It is a worldwide fitness and lifestyle program with 25 years of technical advancement.

In Nia, you become aware that every movement in life is a part of your dance and that each and every movement can be used to self-heal. Nia is movement as medicine.

At Studio Via Nia we offer the Nia experience: Classes makes use of music, imagery and literature as a source for aiding students to connect with their bodies, step into their true self, and learn how to move their whole body more powerfully and elegantly. As a student you are encouraged to further develop the basic elements of space, time, breath, energy, and form while increasing suppleness and strength of body, mind, spirit and heart.

Christine Harkness

New to yoga? Here is a nice way to start: Affordable small-group or private sessions at your home, at your place of work, or at a private Plateau loft/studio.

I teach hatha yoga (Kripalu-style) to real beginners (people with very little or no yoga experience). I suggest an 8-week program to gently and safely prepare you for drop-in studio classes or a beginner-level home practice.

I am a Montreal-based yoga teacher registered with the Yoga Alliance. I was introduced to yoga by my mother who had discovered this ancient practice while living in Madhya Pradesh, India. I have been leading yoga classes since 2002, and I completed my 200-hr teacher training certification in 2003. Currently, I am seeking my professional-level (500hr) certification at Kripalu Centre for Yoga and Health in the Berkshires, Massachussetts.

There is no reason to rush: Start with the fundamentals, and build from a solid foundation. I hope to guide you towards your own unique, evolving, life-long yoga practice.

Eliza Moore

Rooftop Yoga at Spa Orange
Sun, Sweat, Sauna...Splash!

Take a break from your work day to energize and restore both body and mind.

Instructor Eliza Moore was trained in Montreal by both Mark Darby and Hart Lazer in the Ashtanga and Iyengar methods of Yoga. Her teaching pulls from both traditions, pairing a flowing sequence with a focus on physical alignment.

Also a musician, Eliza finds joy and inspiration in rhythm and melody. She uses a diverse soundtrack to awaken a dance-like quality in her classes. This musical tapestry gives the students a frame work from which to link the flow of breath and movement as well as a playful approach to discovering the Asanas.

Eliza's teaching is also informed by her training in Eastern medicine as a Shiatsu practitioner. She incorporates her knowledge of the subtle energetic layers or meridian system of the body, introducing her students to a more whole sense of self-awareness, beyond the material realm.

All Yoga Classes include use of Spa Facilities.

IYENGAR ROSEMONT
Yoga is a system of exercise that uses physical postures and breathing techniques to work the entire body and mind, strengthen muscles, lubricate joints and rejuvenate the brain and other internal organs.

This applied science of the mind and body seeks a state of perfect mental and physical health. It is a system of personal development based on honesty, non-violence and personal study.

An Indian philosophy that has been practiced for thousands of years, yoga is highly pertinent to modern life. Its practice develops a strong, flexible and healthy body, a relaxed and alert mind and a contented outlook on life.

Certified Iyengar Yoga teachers go through a rigorous three-to-five year teacher training program based on an international syllabus and standards set by Yogacharya Shri B.K.S. Iyengar, to:
1. Develop maturity in the personal practice of asana and pranayama;
2. Develop a thorough understanding of the asanas and pranayamas for teaching purposes;
3. Gain proficiency in teaching skills;
4. Gain a basic education in anatomy;
5. Develop a working understanding of the philosophical basis of Astanga Yoga in the Iyengar Method;
6. Learn the various precautions that need to be followed for students with common problems;
7. Practice their teaching skills under the guidance of a qualified training teacher.

To enter a teacher training program, students must be competent Iyengar yoga students who maintain a daily yoga practice. We encourage any yoga student to check the conditions of certification of their yoga teacher !!!

In St Sauveur. Established in 2000 with the goal to offer professional and qualified guidance into the world of Yoga and Meditation. Inspired by Iyengar, through 40 years of exploration by Vanda Scaravelli. Based on the principles of anchoring and surrender, letting go of the inclination to muscle ourselves into the poses. These principles can be applied in any types of yoga, to give beauty and freedom to the poses as they enter a place of more fullness, where they may release deeply held tensions and injuries.
Parijata E. Charbonneau has been exploring Yoga and Meditation for over 25 years. Living extensively in India over a seven year period where she studied Advaita Vedenta with Shri H.W.L. Marie-Daphné Roy

I began practicing yoga in 1996, and started teaching in 1999 at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Western Massachusetts. In 2000, upon completion of a two year residency program and a 500 hour Kripalu Yoga Teacher Training, I've pursued my training with teachers from different horizons and schools of thoughts, both in Montreal and abroad. Currently, I teach group and private classes for beginners, intermediate, advanced and pregnant students. I believe yoga is a great means to reconnect to ourselves, our bodies, our emotions and our thoughts. During the poses we focus on alignment principles, as well as developing a sense of self-awareness, self-observation and compassion.

In massage therapy I practice the Reiki Usui method and Thai Yoga massage, as well as Swedish massage and Myofascial Therapy. I find massage therapy to be a complementary tool in any quest for physical, emotional and psychological well being; it helps in reducing stress levels (yours as well as mine!), and works equally for sedentary and active people.

Nritya Yoga (Yoga of Dance)

Joyful Union of the Body, Mind & Spirit!!

A course inspired by the movement, dance and yoga traditions of India! Yoga (Jyog) and Indian Sacred/Classical dance are inseparable. Both diciplines have common roots that go back thousands of years. It is believed that the sacred teachings were handed down to us through expression, movement and rhythm of dance; a dynamic form of Yoga!

The sacred Yogic dance postures and Mudras (symbolic hand gestures), flow from one posture to another smoothly like dance. Slow and fast rhythmic music is used to help position the postures. Nritya Yoga postures, Mudra work, Yogic breathwork, visualizations, Vibrant Sacred Trance Dance and meditation in motion, are all incorporated in the Nritya Yoga Practice. An experience that truly incorporates the body, mind & spirit; a form of meditation in motion that is spiritually inspiring and soulfully uplifting!!
