Aspiring to become a teacher? Looking to greatly deepen your understanding of this practice? This year long experience is for anyone who shows genuine interest in learning.
Course content:
The initial emphasis will be to take your practice to a much deeper level, and to create an environment that is conducive to learning.
First will be a self evaluation, making it clear where each student stands, as to make the next step possible…to a conscious evolution. The principles learnt will be basic to asana but they are also fundamental to such approach as dance and martial arts.
Yogic &Taoist Philosophy as the basis or inspiration to your approach.
Breath & Vinyasa - Learning the mechanism of breath and its affect on the physical body, on the emotional body, and on the mental body.
Bandha & posture - Optimizing and understanding bandhas and their affect on one’s body. Bringing this understanding to the various asanas with a clear purpose of circulating the energy flow in the body.
Drishti - Bringing the state of mind that makes yoga a transformative process.
Nutrition/ayurveda/herbology/living foods. Mixing ancient and modern views on this subject. (Guest speaker)
Anatomy - Learning very specific anatomy that goes along with the course content. Basic anatomy will be part of the suggested readings. (Guest speaker)
Esoteric anatomy, to understand how this practice is beyond the physical body.
Chanting - We will explore several aspects of the voice and its use in breaking through blockages in the body. (Guest speaker)
Meditation - Bringing a meditative state to all our practices, various approaches will be explored.
The second aspect of the training will involve gaining the confidence and developing the skills that will allow you to transmit your own experience through:
Using words, to give concise & progressive verbal instruction.
Adjustments, both safe and clear.
Reading into the postural imbalances of the students.

Divya Yoga Workshops at Heaven and Earth Institute with Daryl Vansier
Heaven and Earth is offering a series of eight monthly Divya Yoga Workshops, Sunday afternoons from February 10th to September 14th, 2008. Taught by Daryl Vansier, creator of the Divya Yoga method, these dynamic workshops will be an opportunity for Divya Yoga students to deepen their understanding
of the five sequences and receive key instructions to take their asana practice to another level. They will also serve as an introduction to the theory and practice of Divya Yoga for practitioners of other Hatha Yoga styles and those who are considering enrolling in the Divya Yoga Teacher Training also offered at Heaven and Earth Institute.
Please note that these eight workshops are a successive series. While you will benefit from your participation in any one of the workshops, we are offering the last workshop free of charge for those who enroll in the full series to encourage you to receive the full benefit.
The cost is $60 (tax included) per workshop or $420 for the full series.
The Divya Yoga Workshop Series:
Control and Surrender May 11th: 1 to 5 pm
In this first Workshop of the Core series, you will learn how to use ujaayi breath and bandhas to transfer control from the head to the hara and anchor the "sleeve" in the "core". Attention will also be given to the dynamic of control and surrender in yoga. You will learn how to
"surf" the wave - the rhythmic reverberation of your own breath in your body - to dissolve resistance and move with ease and grace.
|
|
Fire in the Belly June 15th: 1 to 5 pm
In this second Workshop of the Core series we will explore the functions of the abdomen, both in terms of the various muscles and energetically. We will "stoke the fire" in the belly with the Bellows Breath (Bhastrika Kumbak) and the Fire Breath (Agni Sara), and learn how to distribute the resulting energy to the rest of the body using a
Chi Gong exercise we call the "hara pump". You will also learn how to regulate the "energetic engine" in asanas. Particular attention will be given to Dandasana, the keystone asana in the Core sequence, with appreciation of the crucial role of the psoas muscles.
The Spinal Support System July 13th: 1 to 5 pm
The back is our "behind the scenes" support system and back problems are its way of letting us know that we need to appreciate and support it in its functions. In this Workshop, the back and neck will receive the attention they deserve. Using variations of backbends, forward bends, and twists, you will discover key areas to release or activate
in order to safely restore healthy and harmonious spine function. As the alignment of the spine is influenced by its appendages or limbs, attention will also be given to adjustments for various body types.
Balancing the Feminine and Masculine August 17th: 1 to 5 pm
Though Yoga is about Oneness, this practice paradoxically requires us to balance the opposing forces of our relatively dualistic existence. The third sequence of the Divya Yoga series focuses on the balancing of the feminine and masculine aspects of our being in our approach to and performance of each asana. Building on the
preparation of your outer and inner body accumulated in the previous Divya Yoga sequences, you will shine the light of your awareness on their interdependence, and tune in to the power of "letting go without losing it".
Integrating Sun and Moon September 14th: 1 to 5 pm
This final Workshop of the Divya Yoga Series is dedicated to the Sun (Ha) and Moon (Tha) sequences of Hatha Yoga, which are the focus of the Integration phase of Divya Yoga. Each of these sequences is a graceful flow that can serve as a framework for a variety of postures and levels of practice. For Divya
Yoga practitioners already familiar with these sequences it will be an opportunity for you to perfect your practice of the asanas they comprise and refine your experience of these "flows".

The sacred Yogic dance postures and Mudras (symbolic hand gestures), flow from one posture to another smoothly like dance. Slow and fast rhythmic music is used to help position the postures. Nritya yoga postures, mudra work, yogic breathwork, visualizations, Vibrant Sacred Trance Dance and meditation in motion, are all incorporated in the Nritya Yoga Practice. An experience that truly incorporates the body, mind & spirit; a form of meditation in motion that is spiritually inspiring and soulfully uplifting!! All are welcome!!

Amrita also performs anthropological research in the field of dance/yoga related to the great yogini's/yogi's of ancient Indian temples. Nritya Yoga is designed for both women and men and can aid to improving one's health emotionally, physically and spiritually.
In Nritya Yoga(Yoga of Dance), Amrita goes back to the ancient Indian philosophy of Jyog (Yoga) and Sacred Dance, and brings this knowledge back to a contemporary setting of today's life. Nritya Yoga is a philosophy of life in joyful, spirited motion; blissful union of the body, mind and spirit!!

Spinal Integration A 5-day Yoga Workshop With Donna Farhi
May 30th-June 4th, 2008 Montreal, Canada
The spinal column is the central axis of the body and when aligned with integrity allows the human being to form a conducting rod between the forces of heaven and earth.
In this intensive we will explore the anatomy, kinesiology and functional movement of the spine learning how to practice Yoga postures with greater efficiency and thus less strain on the back. We will focus intently on the correct transmission of
force through the sacro-iliac joint and how to both prevent and alleviate discomfort in the lower back and pelvis. We will also investigate the way in which human developmental movement patterns can offer central support for the spinal column and how engaging these
patterns can create ease and fluidity not only in the spine but throughout the whole body.
Appropriate for students with at least one year of consistent yoga practice, up to teacher level.
Class numbers will be limited for this engagement.

Yoga Teachers Gathering August 15-18
Bald Mountain Retreat Northeast Kingdom, VT (90 minutes away)
Attend an informal long-weekend with your colleagues this summer.
Recreate, rest, rejuvenate, renew, network, learn, enjoy.
Bring some old friends and make some new ones.
Sit around the campfire beneath the starry sky.
Families and friends are welcome.
Group activities and events.
Or come for the day.
Free.
The retreat and region suggest activities aplenty for a long weekend; hiking, swimming, Ultimate, rockclimbing, mt climbing, berry-picking and others are all activities to be enjoyed on site; boating, golf and others are available nearby; communal meals,
campfires, group exercises... Personally I like to stay out of the car, to stay put and enjoy the remarkable feng shui of the retreat and surrounding environs. A hike over Bald Mountain and down to Lake Willoughby would be fine... especially with a ride back.
I could facilitate meal preparation, outings and activities and/or help others to do the same. We're okay winging it, and I would like to see what some of you might want to do or to offer beforehand. I hope I'm conveying the right mix of casualness and sensibility here.
Tents in the meadow and woods around the meadow will be the main sleeping accommodation. There will be some indoor sleeping space both dormitory-style (we can sleep a lot of people on the second floor) and private, also there will be some semi-indoor sleeping huts. The lodge is a great indoor space for
groups. I expect that the very few expenses for the gathering- food and propane- would be covered by a minimal per person fee... something on the order of $25 for the long-weekend for adults.
Please see www.baldmountainretreat.com
and/or contact drdavid@baldmountainretreat.com for more information and photos.

Open Your Heart to the Subtle Voice Within: Through Kundalini Yoga & Meditation
with Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa
Date: September 12 - 14, 2008 - TORONTO
Time: Friday: 6:30 - 9:30pm
Saturday: 9:30am - 12:30pm
and 2:00 - 5:00pm
Sunday: 9:00am - noon
Location: TBA
Cost: $ 300 CAD Early bird or $325 CAD after August 20
To Register visit: www.yogaspirit.com
Workshop Description
We are born to fulfill our destiny. When we realign with the subtle voice within, we realign our destiny. Through Kundalini Yoga and meditation we open all channels of divinity. Your body becomes a divination tool that is intrinsically receptive to hearing the Well of Divine Consciousness within. Instead of ruminating on your life, you
are illuminating on your life. Through asana, chanting, dancing and meditation, along with the sound of the sacred Gong, we celebrate the fulfillment of our divine connection to Truth, Spirit and Destiny. All levels welcome.
About Gurmukh Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa, lovingly known as "Gurmukh" in the Yoga world, loves to celebrate life. And how? People are always around her, eating, meeting, talking, having fun. She loves to bring people together. Every Sunday night after a hearty 2 hour Yoga class, up to 90 to 100 people
gather for a Sunday night dinner, creating the feeling of the old time "Family Get Together."
What warms her heart the most? Watching the pregnant mamas during their pregnancy and then when they bring their babies back 40 days after childbirth. She loves to see the mothers and their children as they grow up. And she loves to watch the children as they grow and blossom.
One of her greatest loves of the day is rising in the early morning, and meditating before the sunrises. She loves to sit on her Indian swing, and swing in her garden as she chants sacred hymns. Her interests, besides Yoga, include roller-blading, swimming at the YMCA, and working in her garden. She loves to go to
India as many times as she can, up to 2-3 times a year. She hikes in the Hollywood Hills with her 22 year old daughter, her husband of 25 years, and their family dogs.
Gurmukh is the co-founder and director of Golden Bridge, the premier center for the study and practice of Kundalini Yoga and meditation in Los Angeles, CA, and now also in New York City. She was given her Sikh spiritual name by Yogi Bhajan, her Spiritual Teacher since 1970, meaning "one who helps people across the
world ocean," 37 years ago. Since then, Gurmukh has dedicated her life to fulfilling her namesake. For over three decades, students in Los Angeles and around the world have sought her classes in Kundalini Yoga, meditation and pre and post natal training. She is the author of "The Eight Human Talents: The Yogic Way to Restoring the Natural Balance of
Serenity Within You", and "Bountiful, Beautiful, Blissful: Experience the Natural Power of Pregnancy and Birth with Kundalini Yoga and Meditation". She also has three videos available, PreNatal Yoga, Post Natal Yoga, as well as "Kundalini Yoga with Gurmukh," and trains yoga teachers throughout the world.

Workshop Description
The Sacroiliac Joint and Asana
For Teachers and Serious Students
Friday & Saturday, Oct. 24 & 25
Many practitioners of yoga, both novice and teacher alike, have had problems with their sacroiliac joint. What poses can make this better? Worse? These two days for teachers and serious students will include anatomy, movement principles, therapeutics and applied asana practice to help us all teach with more knowledge and compassion. Come prepared
to learn new principles, see them applied to others and feel them in your own body so they will become a part of your teaching.
Living Your Yoga
Open to Everyone
Sunday, Oct. 26
What we do "on the mat" is given perspective by how we live our lives off the mat. In this workshop we will use short discussion from the Yoga Sutra, active asana practice, as well as Restorative Yoga, Pranayama and Meditation to create a juicy and livable practice to take home.
The first session of the day will focus on "active practice", moving, strengthening, warming with awareness and fun. Included will be such poses as standing poses and backbends. After a short break, we will return to the mat for a "quiet" practice of meditation, pranayama and
Restorative yoga. This well-rounded practice will serve to center and inspire us as we open our hearts to living well in the world.
