Shadow Yoga's second prelude works on coordinating the lower limbs to their core through intricate hand and footwork. It develops skills in forward bending using fluid spiraling movements to help gain power in the legs and move it through the waist and inner organs. Narrow, tight stances and deep squats help free the pelvis and access the shins and feet while developing proper balance. It brings the practitioner inward with exhalation emphasis, cooling and soothing the body and mind. It builds self-acceptance and mental stability cultivating states of trust and surrender.

Pre-requisites: Introduction to a Shadow Yoga Practice or a minimum of 1 year strong yoga practice in any style.

Fee: $70

This workshop will bring a whole new perspective on Pain!

This is one of the most memorable workhops I have ever taken!

Neil Pearson is a Clinical Assistant Professor at UBC, a physiotherapist and yoga therapist.

He works exclusively with people with complex pain problems, including teaching therapeutic yoga classes.

Neil is a faculty member in yoga therapy training programs throughout North America and teaches health care professionals and the public about pain management and about yoga as therapy.

He has created many resources including an extensive educational website, audio CDs and a yoga DVD for people with chronic pain.
http://www.lifeisnow.ca/

He has a fun and humble personality integrating knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pain and pathophysiology with yoga therapy.

The Science of "Pain & the Brain"
Yoga Day Workshop;
Many seek out yoga as a way to decrease pain from an injury, while others practice yoga to attain a better quality of life in the face of a chronic pain condition.
This suggests that understanding pain and how it uniquely impacts every aspect of our existence, is vital to yoga teachers and yoga practitioners.

Session Description;
This workshop begins with an interactive presentation of the science of pain, then moves into discussions of the positive effects Yoga practices can have on pain. Then, you will be guided through a yoga practice based on the first six limbs of Raja Yoga.

Neil Pearson is one of the leading physical therapist/yoga therapist in pain management, and assures us that you will leave with clear guidance in answer to the question, "How much pain should I have when I practice Yoga?"
Be prepared to participate in discussion and practice!

*NO prior yoga EXPERIENCE is necessary.*

Yoga students and teachers as well as health care practitioners are especially welcome.

On a personal Note;
I know Neil personally as he was one of MISTY 2011 faculty (of which I am co-founder). I have been hooked on his workshops since first attending at the Toronto Yoga Conference a few years back which is why he was selected to take part at MISTY.

He is a humble yet extremely knowledgable, down to earth guy that makes understanding the science of pain a treat!
This information will linger in your mind not only on but off the mat for always!

Babaji’s Kriya Yoga
The first in a series of initiation seminars
With Durga Ahlund and Marshall Govindan
Saturday and Sunday June 8-9, 2013, 9 am to 5:30 pm
Introductory lecture: Friday June 7, at 8:30 pm
Location: Babaji’s Kriya Yoga Ashram, 196 Mountain Road,
St. Etienne de Bolton, Quebec, J0E 2E0.
One hour east of the Montreal Champlain Bridge , exit 100 of Autoroute 10.

The goal of life is happiness, peace, love and enlightenment. The desire for perfection comes from the Self, the image of God which seeks to express itself through all humanity. KRIYA YOGA is a scientific art of perfect God truth union. It was revived in modern times by a great master of India, Babaji Nagaraj, as a synthesis of the teachings of the 18 siddhas. It includes a series of techniques.

In this weekend you will learn 18 postures for greater health, relaxation and energy; the 6 phases of the powerful breathing technique, known as "Kriya Kundalini Pranayama" to awaken and circulate subtle energies; 7 techniques of meditation to cleanse the subconscious, to master the mind and to bring about realization of the Self and Absolute Reality.

Durga Ahlund Govindan has been practicing and studying Yoga since 1967. She first began teaching Yoga in 1984. She has shared her experience of Yoga as a teacher of Hatha Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, and Kriya Yoga and as a Phoenix Rising Yoga therapist. She co-authored, performed, and produced with Marshall Govindan, the Yoga video, “Babaji’s Kriya HathaYoga, Self-realization through Action with Awareness.” She developed and teaches a 200-hour Teacher Training Course for Babaji’s Kriya Yoga at the Kriya Yoga Ashram in Quebec, and also in Germany, Spain, Estonia, Brazil and in India. She developed “The Grace Course,” a two-year monthly correspondence course of lessons on Kriya Yoga and self-study. She was inducted into the teaching Order of Acharyas of Babaji’s Kriya Yoga in Bangalore, India in January 2003. Her latest book is “Deepening Your Practice.” Check out her blog on Yoga at seekingtheself.com.

The suggested contribution of $300 + tax, includes 2 nights lodging and 5 meals on Saturday and Sunday

Meditation Retreat in Sutton
Jun 21, 2013 - Jun 23, 2013

You are cordially invited to participate in a silent meditation retreat in the beautiful Eastern Townships. The quiet and large space at the center is ideal for creating a retreat where we can reflect, meditate, and cultivate the calm, the compassion, and the well-being we wish to experience in our day to day life.

We will spend the week-end in nature, in silence, in group discussion, and explore the practice of meditation, chanting, kirtan, and yoga. My musical partner Frederic Jean will be joining us to graciously play keyboard and create a peaceful ambiance with his meditative, angelic sounds. There will also be personal time for resting, taking walks in the forest, swimming in the indoor pool and enjoying the sauna too.

Delicious vegan meals will be prepared by Maria Amore who will also share her insights about compassionate eating for a healthier life both personally and for the environment, and of how a vegan diet supports one's spiritual life.

By taking the time away on a retreat, we can give ourselves the gift of renewal. Being in a quiet space in the beautiful surroundings of nature will help us to more easily contemplate the life we desire to live. And by cultivating a meditation practice that embraces compassionate living, we will develop the necessary tools that empower us to create positive change in the world.

"Living the Good Life" Yoga Retreat with Barrie Risman

How can one resist the charm of Pierre- Buffière- this quaint XIth century village? A few minutes walking distance from the village is l’Aubeypie, my ancestral property, purchased by my family in 1871. L’Aubeypie, in the heart of Limousin, offers 25 hectares of serenity with its forests and rolling fields, the manor house and its annexes. I warmly welcome you to share a week of practice with Barrie Risman.
~Marie-Catherine Laduré, your host

Our retreat schedule includes two sessions of yoga per day, as well as ample time for rest and full enjoyment of our exquisite retreat setting. Morning and afternoon yoga sessions will include asana, pranayama, meditation, contemplative reflection and discussion, all designed to support you in nourishing the inner well-being that is key to savoring the goodness of life.

Barrie Risman, our retreat teacher, is the co-founder of Shri Yoga in Montreal. She is known as an insightful and uplifting teacher whose enthusiasm inspires students to fully embrace the awakening power of yoga.

You will lodge in the village, at l’Auberge Dupuytren, which dates back to the 19th century. It has recently been totally renovated and is a 15 minute walk to l’Aubeypie. This charming auberge will seduce you with its old world charm and beautiful swimming pool which is nested in a lush garden surrounded by old stone walls.

200-hour Teacher Training with Barrie Risman and Mona Keddy
Sep 13, 2013 - Jun 22, 2014

Information sessions:
Friday, May 10, 9-9:30am
Wednesday, May 15 12-12:30pm

Shri Yoga’s 200-hour Teacher Training blends excellence in technical instruction with a heart-centered philosophy that emphasizes a deepening connection to one’s own inner being as the source of awakening and transformation.

We view the path to becoming a yoga teacher as one of empowerment and self-discovery – a path that will inspire you to go deep into your experience of yoga, challenge you toward refined awareness and precision in asana practice, and empower you with the skills to share the gifts of yoga practice with others.

Training Overview
We believe that all great teachers of yoga are fundamentally devoted students who are actively and deeply committed to yoga as a path of inner fulfilment and expansion. With this in mind, our training program is divided into two parts.

Part One: Foundations of Practice
The first part of the program is designed to immerse you in your own study and practice of our alignment-based, heart-centered hatha yoga in an atmosphere that sparks insight, discovery and understanding. It will include:

Extensive study of bio-mechanical principles of alignment in asana
An overview of the historical roots and development of the yoga tradition
Study of all the traditional paths of yoga philosophy with an emphasis on the teachings of non-dual Shaivite Tantra
Guidance in personal practice
Anatomy study, Fundamentals of Pranayama, Meditation instruction

Part One may be taken as a stand-alone 100-hour program for all students wishing to deepen their yoga practice without pursuing teacher training.

Part Two: The Art and Skill of Teaching Yoga

The second part of our program focuses on taking the knowledge of practice from part one and learning how to share it in ways that uplift and inspire students. Designed as a truly empowering and transformational process, each student will be guided step by step in all areas of great yoga teaching, including:

Taking the seat of the teacher with confidence, authenticity and love
Finding your own unique voice
Effective verbal instructions for all the basic asanas
Progressive and purposeful class sequencing
Skilful observation
Physical adjustments
Demonstration techniques
Therapeutics and special needs
and more

Other elements of our training include personalized, one-on-one feedback and mentoring, observing classes at Shri, practice teaching and assignments between sessions.

Upon successful completion of the training, you will be eligible to register with the Yoga Alliance as a Registered Yoga Teacher at the 200-hour level (RYT-200).

YOGA AND INSIGHT MEDITATION COUNTRY RETREAT

YOGA AND INSIGHT MEDITATION COUNTRY RETREAT
Oct 04, 2013 - Oct 06, 2013
600 - 200

The ability to examine our lives, to sit intimately with ourselves and allow our true nature to reveal itself is a noble capacity that can be cultivated. The ability to bring a kind attention to our thoughts, feelings and actions opens the gateway to a loving presence within as a deep trust of ourselves begins to evolve.
Throughout the weekend we will cultivate the practices of awareness and self inquiry through seated and walking meditation. We begin Friday evening at 7 with a light dinner, followed by introductions, everything you'll need to know for the weekend, a few stretches, the beginning of the silence and our first sitting. There will be daily instruction, questions and discussion. Each morning begins with yoga to awaken our sensitivity to our bodies, the temple of wisdom and compassion. Saturday afternoon we will rest deeply with restorative yoga and relaxation.
The weekend is conducted in social silence which heightens our sense of awareness. Silence is a great magnetic force which pulls us into a sea of tranquility. Silence can heal, lead us to experience our wholeness and the joy of living in the moment.
While sacred silence holds the group, our opening and closing sharing sessions create the safe communal space in which to practice together. We end with lunch, the silence broken, mid day on Sunday

Our process will be supported by the beauty and tranquility of nature and nutritious home cooked vegetarian meals.
The setting is in Sutton Quebec, a retreat centre outside the village with lovely spacious views of forest and mountains. A pond, mountain brook, small orchard all add to the richness and peace of this rural setting. All participants are housed in rustic semi-private rooms. The cost for the weekend is from $365 plus taxes. Car pooling available.

Dare yourself to unplug ... iRest Yoga Nidra, Yoga & Meditation Retreat @ Shanti Retreat Center
Oct 18, 2013 - Oct 20, 2013

Autumn invites us to balance the light and darkness within. We’ll retreat together in exploration to meet, greet, and welcome everything as its fundamental quality - Oneness - everything a part of and made of one non-dual consciousness. Dare to let go of what you normally do, come home to your true Self, that is always fresh. Experience the hatha yoga style of Body Sensing Yoga, walking and guided meditations, and iRest Yoga Nida “the yogi’s sleep” - deep meditative self-inquiry, where notions of separateness may be disabused. We’ll leave together more open and with an expansive sense of being.

Dolphins of Bimini Yoga-Music Retreat
Nov 10, 2013 - Nov 16, 2013

Join Julie Rousseau and KC Solaris for an unforgettable experience in The Bahamas For a Wild-Dolphin Encounter, Including Yoga, Meditations, Live Music and so much more!

Each day, we set out to sea on Dolphin Quest, a 40 foot catamaran, as we await the arrival of the dolphins to come meet us. They offer us their lessons of unconditional love and acceptance, pure bliss, community living, sacred union, and surrendering to life, oneself, and the present moment.

We will have daily yoga sessions, morning hatha yoga with Amlas and evening yin yoga with live music with Julie and KC. There will also be meditations and healing sessions, and perhaps even a kirtan gathering! You’ll eat delicious homemade food, and visit and snorkel at the ancient Atlantis Stones of the famous Bimini Road. There will be free time to relax on the beach and explore the island or get a massage and other healing sessions if desired.
