AYURVEDA AND YOGA WORKSHOP
Mar 03, 2012 1:30PM - 3:00PM

|
|
Ayurveda and Yoga are sister sciences based on the philosophy of Sánkhya and have traditionally been used in conjunction with one another. All yoga practitioners benefit greatly from having an understanding of Ayurveda.
Regarded as the Science of Life, Ayurveda is concerned with promoting both physical and mental well-being with its highest goal being self-realization. Its wisdom is based on the elements that constitute our form and the imbalances they carry. Understanding one's Prakriti (one's individual constitutional make up) and the Vrkriti (the current imbalance) will help to adapt a supportive lifestyle for unique needs.
You will be given a handout as well as an Ayurvedic Dosha Questionnaire.
*Bring your own sitting cushion.
$30 (part of The Yoga Lecture Workshop Series - $70 for all 4)

Our Biological existence is a dance between doshas. The 3 doshas are Vata (air/ether), Pitta (fire/water) and Kapha (water/earth). The proportions of these elements within and around us have profound influences on how we experience our physical, psychological, and spiritual selves. Each need different cleanses, diets, yoga practices, jobs…
This workshop will introduce principles of Ayurveda and display how simple knowledge of your constitution can help to understand, forgive and transform your habitual ways of eating and living that may be self-destructive. You will be given a handout as well as an Ayurvedic Dosha Questionnaire.
Open to All. Given in English.

Mar 13, 2012 - May 15, 2012
It’s not uncommon for students and teachers of yoga to be challenged by a cluster of restrictions and tensions in the neck, shoulders, and upper back region.
Focusing on inversions, backbends, and basic musculo-skeletal problem-solving, this workshop will teach you how to assess your own, and your students’ restriction issues, and how to help free up and strengthen this challenging area.

Course Content:
The initial emphasis will be to give you the inspiration to take your practice to a much deeper level, and to create an environment that is conducive to learning.
First will be a self evaluation, making it clear where each student stands, as to make the next step possible…to a conscious evolution. The principles learnt will be basic to asana but they are also fundamental to such approach as dance and martial arts.
Yogic Philosophy - as the basis or inspiration to your approach.
Breath & Vinyasa - Learning the mechanism of breath and its affect on the physical body, on the emotional body, and on the mental body.
Bandha & posture - Optimizing and understanding bandhas and their affect on one’s body. Bringing this understanding to the various asanas with a clear purpose of circulating the energy flow in the body.
Drishti - Bringing the state of mind that makes yoga a transformative process.
Anatomy - Learning very specific anatomy that goes along with the course content. Basic anatomy will be part of the suggested readings. (Guest speaker)
Meditation - Bringing a meditative state to all our practices, various approaches will be explored.
The second aspect of the training will involve gaining the confidence and developing the skills that will allow you to transmit your own experience through:

-Adjustments, both safe and clear
-Reading into the postural and energetic imbalances of the students
