Eldar Days to Come?
One of my earliest childhood memories
is of when
I was remembering
Being bathed in golden light,
Suffused with goodness and wellbeing;
And that moment was realizing
This time was lost to me. Forever.
Are the Golden Ages gone?
In a Garden of Eden lost?
While we labour in Kali days,
Short of wisdom and grace
Compared to long ago
Eldar Days.
Pale shadows of the greatness
That our elders knew,
closer to creation,
having not fallen as
far from that grace?
And now our great treasures
could only come from those days.
Miraculously preserved
By unwavering purity
And horror of
Improvisation.
On banana leaves,
transmitted to us.
‘Twas ever thus!
But the Future
could be a species
still evolving.
Still trying to
grow up
to its tools
and its talents,
turning to yoga
And changing yoga
In millions of ways.
And using it to adapt
To life
On an orbital farm.
And maybe 3,000
years or so ago
in India, in a temple:
they were having
a pretty good yoga class, too.
And some of the postures
you might have done
in Monday night’s class.
While the rest looked
a lot like
The New York City Ballet.
But that class
was not as good as
the one you could be having …
Right now.
