webmaster for the Yogamontreal website
at http://www.yogamontreal.com. Create and maintain a directory of yoga
studios and teachers in the Some of the
books about or closely related to yoga which I have read and found valuable over the years (in no
particular order): Autobiography of a Yogi, Paramahansa
Yogananda (which I read as a teenager and led me to
my first class); Light on Yoga, BKS Iyengar (which
I consult as the definitive reference on postures); The Heart of Yoga, TKV Desikachar (whose message about yoga adapting to the
individual I hold dearly); Dancing the Body of Light, Dona Holleman, Orit Sen-Gupta (particularly for their emphasis on the value
of the many postures as expressions of the intelligence of the body); Shambhala, The Sacred Path of the Warrior, Chogyam Trungpa (about living
yoga); Loving-Kindness, Sharon Salzburg (which has put structure into
meditation); Power Yoga, Beryl Bender Birch; Ashtanga - The Practice Manual,
David Swenson (both of the above 2 are excellent guides to ashtanga practice); Yoga – The Iyengar
Way, Silva, Mira and Shyam Mehta (an accessible
reference to key postures); The Anatomy of Hatha
Yoga, Coulter (the authority on what is happening in the body during yoga);
The Yoga Tradition, Feurstein (a definitive encyclopedia); Interbeing, Thich Nat Hanh (advice from a
great practitioner of Buddhism); Yoga – Maitriser
les postures de base, Anderson and Savik; (Ten
Principal Upanishads, translation by WB Yeats and Shree
Purohit Swami (very readable version of the classic
texts); Yoga Mala, K Pattabhi
Jois (I learned much and fought much) … also
magazines, esp Yoga Journal, Yoga International,
and Ascent |
