Leigh Evans (New York)
Yoga Workshop Inward Journey
Saturday, November 15 from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm
As we head into winter our bodies naturally yearn for a time of introspection and deep meditation. This workshop will lead you deeply inside through an exploration of yoga asanas, meditation, and chanting to calm your mind and rejuvenate your body.
According to Chinese Medicine, the kidneys are seen as the root and foundation of the body and the seed of life. As the most concentrated organ in the body, our kidneys are most affected by wintertime. In this workshop, we will experience ways to awaken our kidney meridian through yoga postures, acupressure points, and lifestyle changes.
Come restore yourself through a series of poses designed to strengthen, nurture, and balance the kidneys, and thus replenish and nourish the sap of body.
Leigh Evans is a yoga teacher and dancer dedicated to awakening creativity and aliveness in the body. She loves the practice of yoga for the peacefulness and clarity of mind that comes from the breath flowing freely in the body.
Since 1985, Leigh has practiced Hatha Yoga in the Iyengar, Ashtanga, and Viniyoga traditions in the U.S. and India.
She has been teaching yoga for 15 years. She draws from her training in Vipassana meditation to create a mindful yoga practice, inviting you to witness the shifting sensations of the body and attune to the inner unfolding of each asana. Leigh's classes focus on healing and transformation by blending a strong vinyasa practice with gentler restorative asanas, meditation, and chanting.

Ashtanga Yoga 101
with Nicolas Adeline
SATURDAY November 15, 2008 12:30-2:30 pm
Ashtanga is a method of Yoga, which in external form is of exquisite beauty... a reflection of what's happening within. It builds not just flexibility but also tremendous strength and inner balance. In Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga the body is used as a tool to train the mind, and it is with the synchronizing of movement with breath that a meditative state of being is obtained while simultaneously training the body.
In this Workshop, we will explore the fundamentals of the standing series; a sequence of postures relevant to any yoga practice and which sets the foundation for the seated postures. The emphasis will be placed on the three main elements of the Ashtanga practice: breath (ujjayi), Bandha (internal energy locks), Drishti (gazing points). We will also learn the 8 limbs of Ashtanga as described in the Yoga Sutras and how they relate to any individual's yoga practice and everyday life.
A practice will be included in the workshop as well as a Q&A. For all levels.
Nicolas Adeline studies under the guidance of his teacher Darby, a direct student of Pattabi Jois who developed the method by way of his teacher Krishnamacharya.
Please reserve your place early as space is limited.

Weekend Workshop with Carlos Pomeda
November 21-23, 2008
What is Yoga? An Historical Overview
Friday 6-9 pm
What is Yoga? The answer is not as obvious as it may seem! In fact, the various systems of Yoga that developed in India over the centuries are different answers to that fundamental question.
The Workshop will combine a lively and insightful presentation of some of the most important teachings of the various schools, including the origins of Yoga, the classical formulation of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, the systems of Vedanta and different approaches of Tantrism, including Kashmir Shaivism.
It will also include a variety of meditative and other practices to give participants an "inside" feel for each one.
From the Everyday to the Supreme:
The secret to the fulfillment of life lies hidden in plain sight...
Saturday & Sunday
Based on a classical Tantric text from the Kashmiri tradition (the Pratyabhijna-hrdayam, or "Heart of Recognition"), this seminar will teach us how to recognize the most extraordinary Supreme Consciousness in the midst of the most ordinary processes.
We will examine how consciousness unfolds in the universe, and be offered keys to deepen our understanding and experience of Supreme Reality. The seminar will culminate with several powerful techniques for the expansion of our own consciousness.
Come join us as we celebrate the miracle of consciousness in our lives through the study of a most sublime philosophy, as well as the gift of powerful and relevant practices.

The Anatomy of Kundalini Yoga
with Nigel Wolf
Saturday, Nov 22. 2008 @ 11:30-1:30 pm
In this Workshop you will gain a deeper understanding of your body’s anatomy and how the physical postures “Asanas” relate to the experience of Yoga. Kundalini Yoga Master Yogi Bhajan often referred to the asanas as the “Yoga of angles and triangles”. Indeed, with proper alignment of the spine, one’s breathing automatically becomes deeper, more efficient. We will explore various postures (including traditional Hatha Asanas) as well as hand Mudras for meditation. Nigel will also discuss the more subtle anatomy of the endocrine & nervous systems.
Kundalini Yoga, the Yoga of Awareness, was brought to the West by Yogi Bhajan in 1968. Yogi Bhajan taught that, through the practice of Kundalini Yoga and meditation, your glandular and nervous systems are stimulated, and your capacity for creative potential is heightened. You gain inner vitality to compensate for the adverse effects of stress so you can excel in life.
Certified Kundalini Yoga Instructor Nigel Wolf brings 13 years teaching experience to this workshop. His enthusiasm, warmth and humour are contagious !
This workshop is open to students from all Yoga traditions!

YOGA NIDRA
The Art of Deep Relaxation
With Stéphane Colliège, at Studio Bliss Saturday, November 29th 2008, 2:15 pm to 4:15 pm
A real relaxation implies a fine awareness.
Yoga Nidra (or Yoga of Sleep) allows to experience a state of dynamic sleep.
As a method, it induces deep relaxation at the physical, mental and emotional levels. By penetrating deep inside ourselves, we learn consciously how to relax.
This practice induces various stages through which Stéphane Colliège will guide you. These different steps will allow us to live a deep inner experience, gradually moving closer to the state of Yoga as defined by
Patanjali in his Yoga Sutras, as "the cessation of the modifications of the mind".
This workshop is opened to all.
Cost: $30 members
$35 non-members with 15% discount for a registration before November 25th.

JONATHAN HORAN: WAVES
5Rhythms Weekend
HIGH VIBRATION WAVES: December 4, 2008* WAVES: December 5-7, 2008
@Studio Jeanne-Renaud /Circuit-Est
HIGH VIBRATION WAVES (Thursday)
In this class we dance hard, we dance bold, we dance deep. Jonathan takes us to the place where the soul of hip hop, the catharsis of rock and roll, the trance of techno and the heart of house collide into the world beat. And in this beat, we get together to reinvent ourselves, to discard last week's fears and move into this week's dreams. This is our practice.
We know that everything in life moves in waves, including our thoughts, feelings, desires, and sensations. Everything alive moves at an ever-changing pulse.
The 5Rhythms® (flowing, staccato, chaos, lyrical, and stillness) offer us a way to physically embody these waves. They give us a physical vocabulary to express where we are and to trust wherever we are going. We practice the 5Rhythm Wave over and over to help us ground when we are in chaos, flow when we feel frozen, and surrender to our natural state of being; a fluid body in motion.
The Rhythms give us a practical way to stay present and in motion with whatever comes our way. The beat strips us down to our naked souls, revealing us as lovable, amazing and fascinating creatures underneath it all.

Everyone Upside Down
Tackling Inversions in Yoga,
With Allison Ulan
Saturday December 13, 2008 2 - 5 pm
Inversions are excellent for the heart, lungs, thyroid and much more when practiced with skill, appreciation and patience. Because of how these postures stimulate the lungs and massage the heart and other deep tissue organs, inversions are the most
exhilarating of all the yoga asana. However, they can be the most difficult to master.
In this 3-hour workshop, we will look at the prerequisites of the major inversions - shoulderstand, handstand and headstand. We will begin with more beginner level poses to tune in, then sequences to open the chest and shoulders and final partner work
for traction. We will also go through sections of the Second Series and practice Pincha Manyurasana (forearm stands), and Nakrasana (the crocodile). To end our exploration, we will diagnose and practise the seven headstands from the 2nd series.
Pre-requisites for this course are that all participants be able to do full Urdva Dhanurasana on their own and be able to kick up into a handstand with the aid of a wall. Plus, all participants must have a consistent yoga practice and no major injuries to the
back, neck or arms. Please contact Allison at the studio or by e-mail if you are not sure if this workshop is appropriate for you.
